Becky's Trip to D.C.

The Wizards game!

The World War II Memorial. It wasn't built the last time I was in D.C. It was a special time to reflect about my Papa.

The Washington Monument

Last week I had the opportunity to spend the week at a conference in Arlington, VA hosted by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The conference was held for all recepients of federal funds pertaining to abstinence education. I have been working for an abstinence program in Troy for the past 6 months and have grow extremely passionate about my work. I'm a full-time instructor (the instructor corrdinator) and it is my job to make sure our instructors who go into the schools we serve are prepared with updated statistics and what not. I love it! :) I love that I also get my fair share of teaching and interacting with students, empowering them to make something of themselves for the sake of their future. The conference was so refueling as I was able to learn how to do my job better and was able to network with other programs who have the same goal in mind. I left with a wealth of knowledge. It was almost like the fire hose effect, so much information it was difficult to take it all in. While in the D.C. area, I was able to visit several monuments, although we went at night and it was frigid to say the least. I also went to my very first NBA game : The Washington Wizards vs. The Denver Nuggets. Although we were two rows from the very top, we had a great time! :) I have found that I am passionate about people. It is moving to think that I might, through God's infinate power and grace, have an impact of the future of our country by encouraging them to make healthy choices. Please pray for the next generation to be movers and shakers and that somehow the abstinence message will help them see there greater purpose in life: knowing God and making Him known.
